We arrived in Milan early afternoon yesterday, after driving the most boring stretch of highway in our 4000+km trip so far. It was raining a bit, and the crazy Italian drivers were out in full pacman force budging lanes and swerving sideways. Our hotel was in a great location, so after checking in and finding the parking garage we set off to the Duomo area to see the great big cathedral. The crowds were thick, the potential for pickpockets was high, and scammers were numerous. we squeezed past them all with success, and made our way in to one of the largest most impressive churches we’ve seen in a long time. The ceiling was so high there was haze and fog, and flood lights help illuminate the amazing stained glass. Even the floors were extremely intricate. The exterior was a sight in itself. we opted out of climbing the tower and instead of having a “to-see” list we wandered the cute streets, the indoor outdoor mall that resembled a fancy and grand train station, had a McCafe and a muffin in the most crowded McDonalds ever, and enjoyed a wander through its main city park to the pseudo arch de triumph. For dinner we wandered back towards the crowds and had tiny but tasty portions of pasta at a cute little outdoor eatery, followed by the gelato I’d been waiting pretty much my whole life for, a scoop of chocolate and a scoop of menthe. Ahhhhhh. My time in Italia is now complete!
