So, we’ve decided to pack up the house and head South for a few months this winter. That said, we don’t actually own a house so we’ll be packing up our storage room.
After a lot of research we decided to purchase a travel trailer so we can jump from one destination to another with all the comforts of home. Jocelyn and I spent a few weeks looking at various models online and visiting a few local dealers before deciding on a Kodiak. They’re a little more modern interior wise, and by that I mean less brown wood and camo. They also have some great floor plans, we’re set on the Kodiak 284 BHSL (Bunk house). It comes complete with a single push out, front bedroom, rear bunks, bathroom, kitchen, dinette and couch. There is even a little TV so I can catch some NHL.
After deciding on the Kodiak, we had to find a dealer with the correct model and price. The Calgary dealer didn’t have the unit we wanted, and were not to keen on negotiation, so it was time to look elsewhere. I had heard that you could get some good deals South of the border. After a few phone calls, we managed to locate and negotiate a price on a unit in Montana USA. If you’re looking, we’d definitely recommend checking out www.BretzRv.com. Great people, and an excellent buying experience. They arranged all the paperwork to get me to and through the border. It was no hassle what so ever, drive up, pay GST and you’re on your way. Upon returning to Calgary you need to get a quick inspection at Canadian tire, register the unit and you’re done. I figure we saved 20% after exchange.
Picking it up meant 18 hours total driving, but in the end it was worth it. Plus you get to check out Montana gas stations. Where else can you purchase beer, cigarettes, chewing tobacco, guns, ammunition, cowboy attire, gas, and a lottery ticket all at the same place. Awesome.
